Educational and Clinical Supervision
NANIME Educational & Clinical Supervisors Course
Many of you will be involved in the educational and clinical supervision of trainees. The General Medical Council has made it a required standard (since 2010) that those involved in this process as trainers can demonstrate training, selection (approval) and appraisal in these roles.
The document Framework for the Training, Selection and Appraisal of Named Clinical and Educational Supervisors outlines the process for this.
This training is designed for those who are currently acting as / or soon to be a Clinical or Educational Supervisor. This training is based on the requirements from Health Education England for each Supervisor to:
- Complete stipulated e-learning modules
- Attend an academic educational day at one of the Higher educational institutes -Cambridge, ARU or UEA (HEE HUB Day)
- Attend a hub day at one of 5 centres including Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital (HEI University Day)
All clinical and educational supervisors are to be re-trained every 5 years and, at this point, it is the same as above (e-learning, HEI Day and HEE day).
The training covers topics such as: GMC Requirements, Supervisor Roles, 7 AOME Principles, ARCP, Identifying and Supporting Performance Improvement, SuppoRTT, Simulation and also includes a Trainee in Difficulty Workshop.
It equips the Supervisor for coping with the many varied aspects of supporting and motivating trainees to achieve and succeed. We also cover the Supervisors own wellbeing through Resilience and Emotional Intelligence and Mental Health Wellbeing Workshop.
Lunch/Supper is provided for all attendees.
